Emergency services battling major wildfire in Toledo

Emergency services are continuing to tackle a major wildfire burning around Méntrida in the province of Toledo, close to the border with the Community of Madrid.

The blaze has forced the closure of several roads, while residents in nearby communities have either been evacuated or told to remain indoors as thick smoke spread across the region.

Firefighters, supported by aerial resources and the Military Emergencies Unit, have been working to contain the fire in difficult conditions, with high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds hampering operations.

Authorities say protecting lives and property remains the priority and are urging the public to avoid the affected areas and follow official safety advice.
