Madrid Court Approves Exhumations at Valle de Cuelgamuros
The Supreme Court of Madrid has approved exhumation works at Valle de Cuelgamuros, following an appeal by Patrimonio Nacional.
This comes after previous legal challenges had halted progress of the exhumation and identification of victims from the Spanish civil war.
Simultaneously, the government has announced a partnership with the Vatican to ‘resignify’ the mausoleum.
High-level discussions have led to plans for transforming the site into a museum space while maintaining parts of the basilica for worship.
Minister Ángel Víctor Torres confirmed that efforts to recover the remains of Civil War victims will begin again.
