Government to remove loophole in “only yes means yes” law

The Government has said it will close a loophole in the “only yes means yes” law which inadvertently allowed hundreds of sex offenders to have their sentences reduced.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said in the Senado yesterday that the changes to prison tarriffs were an “unwanted consequence”, and would face amendments in the near future.

Over 300 convicted sex offenders have had their sentences reduced, which has faced fierce criticism from women’s safety groups and the public.
