Government announces new housing decree

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez says the Government is working around the clock to take a new housing decree to the Cabinet on Tuesday.

The measure, already being referred to as the “Maricarmen decree”, follows the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen from the Madrid home where she had lived for more than 70 years.

Sánchez has called on parliamentary groups to make a final effort to support the decree, saying it is aimed at people facing difficulties with housing.

Talks with political parties are continuing ahead of Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.
