Divorce numbers fall by 7%

The number of people getting divorced in Spain has fallen by nearly 7% when compared to the previous years data, the National Statistics Insitute has announced.

According to the INE data, 2022 saw 84,551 dissolutions of marriages, a drop of 6.7% when compared to 2021 figures.

Officials say that the pandemic led to a series of delays in divorce proceedings, with the backlog being cleared last year.

However last year had the third lowest number of divorces since 2005.
