The first names in Pedro Sanchez’s new cabinet have started to be announced, with Josep Borrell appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It’s understood that Mr Borrell called incumbent minister Alfonso Dastis, to confirm that he had been offered the position, and it’s understood handover discussions will begin within the next few days.
This is not the first time that Josep Borrell has held a cabinet position. During the Felipe González premiership, he was Minister of Public Works , Transportation and the Environment between 1991 and 1996.
