Mallorca launches efforts to crack down on private rentals
Palma de Mallorca has become the first city in Spain to ban the use of private properties being used on short term holiday rentals.
People who own multiple properties will no longer be able to rent their apartments on sites such as Airbnb unless they have a mandatory licence for holiday rentals. Certain areas are excluded from the new restrictions, that have been introduced to ensure that housing stock remains available to the local population.
It’s believed that just over half of the properties listed are currently licensed for use, and owners could face stiff fines if they try to operate without the required licences.
