Sanchez invited to form Government by the King

King Felipe VI has invited PSOE leader Pedro Sanchez to try to form a government, and to stand as Prime Minister in a forthcoming investiture debate.

The acting Prime Minister met with the King yesterday afternoon, as rounds of discussions between the head of state and the leaders of the various political parties drew to a close.

The speaker of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet, announced the forthcoming investiture debate and vote yesterday afternoon.

Sanchez is now expected to meet political leaders to attempt to form either a coalition or a confidence and supply agreement from other parties.
