Vox announces no-confidence vote candidate

Far-right party Vox has annonced the candidate who will table a motion of no-confidence against prime minister Pedro Sanchez.

89-year-old Ramón Tamames has agreed to be the independent candidate who will trigger the no-confidence vote which is being tabled by Vox leader Santiago Abascal.

Mr. Tamames is the former deputy of the Communist Party of Spain, and finally agreed to being the opposition candidate to what is being seen as a largely symbolic attempt to collapse the current PSOE/Podemos coalition.

It’s considered highly unlikely that the vote will succeed as the government have a confidence and supply agreement with a number of parties.
