Life Sentence for Member of Criminal Gang Who Stabbed Rapper
David Bárcena, a member of the criminal organization Dominican Don’t Play, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing rapper Isaac López four times in July 2021.
This marks the second life sentence given to a member of a juvenile gang in Spain. At only 20 years old, Bárcena is the youngest person to receive this type of sentence in the country.
In addition to the life sentence, Bárcena has been ordered to compensate the victim’s mother and sister with 175,000 and 50,000 euros respectively.
López, who was 18 years old, tragically lost his life on July 14, 2021, in Madrid.
The jury found Bárcena guilty of premeditated murder and membership of a criminal gang.
The victim, López, was considered particularly vulnerable. Bárcena’s involvement with the Dominican Don’t Play gang was evidenced by videos of him rapping with other members.
It is unclear whether the attackers were aware of López’s Asperger’s syndrome.
During the trial, Bárcena apologized to the victim’s mother and family.
He claimed that López provoked him and pulled out a knife, to which he responded in a fit of uncontrollable anger.
