Ireland, Norway, and Spain Recognise Palestinian State in Move for Peace

In a coordinated announcement, the governments of Spain, Norway, and Ireland have declared their formal recognition of a Palestinian state from 28 May.

In a statement by the government, they said the recognition would be a move to support peace rather than opposition to Israel.

The statement is seen as support for the so-called “two-state solution,” envisaging peaceful coexistence between Israeli and Palestinian states.

However the decision has sparked fury from Israel, with Israeli authorities summoning the three countries’ ambassadors for reprimand talks.
