Hacker jailed after Judiciary attack

A man who hacked the General Council of the Judiciary and gained access to shared law and government databases has been jailed.

The 19-year-old – who has not been named – was placed behind bars during a trial which concluded yesterday.

Investigations began back in October, when security officals at the CGPJ identified unauthorised access to their networks. Over half a million bank account details and tax records could have been accessed during the hack, which has been called a “serious threat to national security”.

Officers from the Policia Nacional digial crimes unit identified the suspect, who is known as a prolific hacker.

In raids carried out on his home, digital records as well as hard drives, high-end vehicles and large amounts of cash were confiscated.
