British man to be extradited to the United States over hacking
The National Court has ordered the extradition of British man to the United States who is accused of hacking the social media accounts of international public figures.
23-year-old Joseph James O’Connor – who comes from Liverpool – is suspected of hacking the accounts of high-profile figires such as current US President Joe Biden, former president Barack Obama and the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates in July of 2020.
His extradition comes after his detention on the Costa del Sol in 2021, when officers raided his location in Estepona.
He is accused of hacking some 130 Twitter accounts, as well as attempting to extort another persons social media accounts, being part of a criminal gang, unauthorised access to official secrets and money laundering.
Mr. O’Connor denies all the charges.
