Torrevieja statue to be restored

Works to refurbish a statue in Torrevieja are to begin, after studies showed that they were necessary.

Officials for the Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja have approved work to be carried out on the Monument to the Man of the Sea sculpture, which is located on the seafront.

Cracks in the metalwork, and damage to the concrete caused by exposure to the sea will be fixed, as well as it undergoing a deep clean before it is given a new protective layer.

The statue, created by Catalan sculptor Josep Ricart i Maimir, was first unveiled in 1975.
