Irishman Arrested for Drug Smuggling at Alicante Airport

An Irishman has been arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling after attempting to board a flight from Alicante to Liverpool with approximately eighteen kilos of cannabis.

The thirty-six-year-old was detained after airport security noted suspicious activity around his checked suitcase, which was subsequently found to contain vacuum-sealed bags of the drug hidden among clothes.

Following his initial court appearance in Elche, he was granted conditional bail.

Terms of his release include a travel ban and the requirement to check in with the court every fortnight.
