A married couple in their eighties are in a serious condition after being attacked by bees in Ávila.
One of the couple, understood to be a woman, was stung over 2000 times. The husband was stung around 300 times. It’s understood the woman is in a critical condition in intensive care.
The couple were attacked whilst walking in the countryside looking for mushrooms. It’s believed they disturbed a swarm of bees whilst foraging.
A local farmer came to their aid, who is being hailed a hero for saving the couple.
Emergency services are reminding people to take care, and not to approach nests or swarms of bees or wasps.
