Spain has retained its position at the top of the table for global wine exports, ahead of Italy and France. Nationally Spain exported 22.8 million hectolitres of wine last year. Italy was in second place with 21 million hectolitres.
However, the country was in third position when it came to the value of wine sold. Spain’s average price per litre of wine currently stands at €1.25, while French wine commands €6 per litre and Italian wine €2.78.
However there are growing concerns over production this year. A bad winter is understood to have meant production forecasts are currently around 30% below that of last year.
