A female-majority cabinet has been presented by Pedro Sanchez, ahead of them assuming their roles today.
Women will take the deputy premiership, and the economy and finance portfolios.
The appointments include:
- Carmen Calvo, a former minister of culture, will serve as deputy PM and minister for equality.
- María Jesús Montero, a former Andalusia councilor, will be finance minister
- and Nadia Calviño, the chief of budget at the EU Commission, will be economy minister.
Spain’s first astronaut, Pedro Duque, has been named minister of science, innovation and universities by the prime minister.
Mr. Duque last went to space in 2003 as part of an International Space Station (ISS) mission.
