The Government has approved plans to exhume the remains of former dictator General Francisco Franco from the Valle de los Caidos.
The decree was approved to amend the wording of the Law of Historical Memory of 2007, so that only remains of those who died during the Spanish Civil war may rest there. The law also stipulates that the location becomes a place of remembrance to the victims of the civil war.
PP and Ciudadanos have criticized plans for Franco’s exhumation however, saying that it is diverting Government time away from important day to day business for the Spanish Parliament.
