Sales volumes dropped 30% across the region last month, according to José Guerrero, the general secretary of the Spanish Confederation of Commerce – The CEC.
As well as the political crisis in the region, poor weather is being blamed for a drop in sales in small businesses.
Concerns about Christmas sales figures were also highlighted, after the timing of the regional elections on the 21st December.
