The speaker of the Catalan Parliament, Roger Torrent, has postponed the full investiture debate after the nominee – Jordi Sànchez – was denied bail to attend the debate.
It’s understood that an extraordinary meeting is to be held this morning which will look at launching a legal challenge to the decision made by the Supreme Court, and that the judge presiding over the case – Pablo Llarena – be replaced.
Jordi Sànchez was denied release as it was ruled his installation as Catalan regional president would break Spanish constitutional law.
Unionist parties have said they will not support any form of legal challenge to the Supreme Court decision.
