Guardia Civil have detained 14 people on suspicion of food fraud, after discovering frozen meat products from a producer in Castilla y León.
Investigations uncovered discrepancies in the types of meat used in hamburgers and meatballs, which were then sold on as beef products. It’s understood pork, as well as soy and bread were added to products, but not included on ingredients lists. It is believed that the practice has been ongoing since 2002.
Only one producer has been identified, and those detained have been remanded in custody whilst awaiting trial.
